Toyota global sales increase 9.8% in August

Toyota Motor announced Thursday that its worldwide sales in August rose 9.8% year-on-year to 853,285 units. The figure marks a record for the month.

In the same month, the automaker posted a 4% increase in the production to 853,285 vehicles, also a monthly record. In addition, Toyota sold 11,880 battery electric cars globally, bringing the total number in the first eight months of the year to around 65,000.

By country, the company reported that sales in Japan, the US, and the UK increased by 46%, 15% and 12%. Meanwhile, sales in China fell by 6.6%.
