Toyota Motor confirmed on Tuesday it has halted work at its facility in China's province of Sichuan until August 20 following the decision of local authorities to order electricity rationing.
The Sichuan province in the southwest has been battling its worst heatwave in the last six decades, prompting various industrial sectors in 19 out of the region's 21 cities to suspend operations until the end of the week.
"We're monitoring the situation every day and following the guidance from the government," A Toyota spokesman noted without revealing how significantly the production will be affected.
