Tropical storm forms in Gulf of Mexico, flash flooding threatens Florida

United States National Hurricane Center said that tropical storm "Debby" has formed over the Gulf of Mexico and is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane as it approaches Florida which could cause flash flooding in the areas of the southeastern part of the country.

"Significant river flooding is also expected," the hurricane center warned, noting that hurricane conditions are anticipated on Monday along parts of Florida's Big Bend region. "There is a danger of life-threatening storm surge inundation along portions of the Gulf coast of Florida," the center added.

On August 1, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency in more than 50 counties, covering Orange and Osceola Counties.
