The United States is expecting Ukraine's response to President Donald Trump's peace offer that would involve Washington's de jure recognition of Crimea as a part of Russia and unofficially accepting Russian control over all territory occupied since 2022, according to Axios reporter Barak Ravid.
US diplomats presented the Ukrainians with a one-page document allegedly containing Washington's final peace offer during their meeting in Paris. The US would end its role as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia if the two sides failed to reach an agreement soon. According to the same report, Trump's offer would involve US guarantees that Ukraine will not enter NATO but could eventually join the European Union. Notably, the US sanctions against Russia would also be lifted.
The US reportedly drafted the offer after Trump's Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Meanwhile, Putin was rumored to be ready to freeze the conflict along the current frontlines.
