United States President Donald Trump's administration is supposedly thinking about eliminating the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) as part of a downsizing of the Pentagon, NBC News reported, citing two US officials and another person familiar with the discussions.
Under the reported plan, AFRICOM would be moved to a subcommand position under European Command, with some defense officials saying this would eliminate bureaucracy. One US official warned, however, that a smaller US presence in Africa could create a power vacuum that Russia and China can fill.
