The Trump administration is considering an emergency aid package for farmers to help them with the incoming tariffs, the New York Times reported on Monday, citing four people familiar with the matter.
According to the report, the White House officials discussed an early draft of a potential farmer bailout with industry lobbying groups and Republican congressional offices. The discussions reportedly included weighing options for funding the aid package, some of which may include legislation. The report also emphasized that the talks are preliminary and still in the early stages.
United States President Donald Trump announced a few weeks ago that he would impose a tariff on external agricultural products on April 2, along with reciprocal tariffs and the 25% tariff on imported cars.
