United States President-elect Donald Trump is supposedly thinking about replacing his pick to run the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the discussions.

Trump is considering dropping Hegseth as his nominee amid Republican senators' concerns over mounting allegations about the former Fox News host's personal and professional life, with Trump allies increasingly worried he may not survive further scrutiny, the news agency said. Trump could decide against choosing DeSantis and select another replacement if Hegseth's nomination crumbles, the report added.

If it comes to that, Hegseth could also be replaced by Senator Joni Ernst of Iowa, while some Trump allies suggested Senator Bill Hagerty of Tennessee for the role, CNN reported, citing sources familiar with the discussions.
