United States President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Thursday to allege that a conservative public figure could never get away with making a statement similar to the one made by MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski, in which she used a homophobic slur to describe US State Secretary Mike Pompeo.
President Trump tweeted: "If it was a Conservative that said what “crazed” Mika Brzezinski stated on her show yesterday, using a certain horrible term, that person would be banned permanently from television. She will probably be given a pass, despite their terrible ratings." Mika, who is also a daughter of Zbigniew Brzezinski, former national security advisor to ex-President Jimmy Carter, was absent from her panel talk show "Morning Joe" on Thursday.
Mika has since apologized, however, new Trump-appointed Washington's envoy to Berlin, the openly gay conservative Richard Grenell, wrote to her on Twitter saying: "Accepting apologies is important. We all fail. But I don’t see that you’ve actually apologized to gays? Your words demean, mock and therefore try to control whole groups by minimizing our humanity." Trump went on to praise Grenell for his handling of the issue. "Congratulations to @RichardGrenell, our great Ambassador to Germany, for having the courage to take this horrible issue on!" US president concluded in his Twitter post.
