United States President Donald Trump signed an executive order that will end collective bargaining for federal workers whose work includes national security aspects.
The order affects workers across several US agencies, including the Department of State, the Department of Defense (DoD), the Department of Justice (DoJ), the Department of Health and many others. A sheet published by the white house states that the president "needs a responsive and accountable civil service to protect our national security."
The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) President Everett Kelly criticized the move, calling it "a disgraceful and retaliatory attack on the rights of hundreds of thousands of patriotic American civil servants—nearly one-third of whom are veterans—simply because they are members of a union that stands up to his harmful policies."
