United States President Donald Trump expects the US Federal Reserve to lower interest rates as soon as possible, per a statement during a cabinet meeting on Monday.
His comment comes just a week after the central bank held its key rates steady at 4.25% and 4.50% for the second consecutive meeting. While discussing this and other economic topics, the president added that energy prices are decreasing.
Recently, he also stated that the Fed would be "better off" cutting interest rates as the tariffs impact the economy. However, the central bank members have vowed to remain committed to a data-driven, meeting-by-meeting approach.
