United States President Donald Trump signed an order implementing a 25% tariff on imports from Canada, except their energy resources, which will have a lower tariff of 10%, and Mexico, as well as a 10% tariff on Chinese imports, the White House announced on X.
"Today's tariff announcement is necessary to hold China, Mexico, and Canada accountable for their promises to halt the flood of poisonous drugs into the United States," the White House said.
Earlier this week, Trump told reporters who asked him about the cost of tariffs being passed onto importers that "there could be some temporary, short-term disruption, and people will understand that," though he added, "the tariffs are going to make us very rich and very strong — and we're going to treat other countries very fairly."
