United States President Donald Trump is considering not including automobile parts, just finished products in the tariffs he is planning to impose on other countries' automobile businesses, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on Wednesday.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno said that Trump might not introduce tariffs reciprocal to those some countries had against the US, noting that by doing so, "we would destroy the economies of those countries. ... President Trump is saying he's probably going to be nicer than he should be, but that niceness is going to have a very short shelf life." He added that limited measures should encourage carmakers to relocate the final stages of vehicle assembling to the US.
Previously, Trump commented on the automobile-linked tariffs that "I'll probably be more lenient than reciprocal, because if I was reciprocal, that would be very tough on people."
