United States President-elect Donald Trump announced Marty Makary as his nominee to lead the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Dave Weldon as the new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) director.
Furthermore, he picked Janette Nesheiwat as his surgeon general, praising her as a "fierce advocate and strong communicator for preventive medicine and public health." Trump highlighted their extensive qualifications and the critical need to restore public trust in these federal health agencies. Trump said the country needs Makary "to course-correct and refocus" the FDA, adding that Weldon will "proudly restore the CDC to its true purpose and work to end the chronic disease epidemic."
Makary, a surgical oncologist and public health advocate, is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and has published over 300 scientific articles, while Weldon is a former congressman and medical doctor with 40 years of experience.
