Nord Stream 1 future depends on 'one-sided sanctions' - FM

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova suggested on Thursday that the future of the Nord Stream 1 depends on the "one-sided sanctions" and gas demand.

The remarks of Zakharova coincide with earlier statements in which she slammed Western Countries and qualified the situation with the turbines as a "hellish circus." However, she added that the Foreign Ministry rejects any speculation about the suspension of supplies.

Yesterday Russian energy giant, Gazprom, said it could not guarantee the smooth operation of Nord Stream while stressing that it did not know if a critical turbine engine would be returned from Canada. During the weekend, Canada's Natural Resources Minister said it would send back the repaired turbine to Germany required for the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline maintenance.
