United States President-elect Donald Trump nominated Keith Kellog (pictured), a retired lieutenant general and former national security adviser to former Vice President Mike Pence, to serve as a special envoy tasked with ending the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
"Keith has led a distinguished Military and Business career, including serving in highly sensitive National Security roles in my first Administration," Trump wrote in the announcement shared on Wednesday. "Together, we will secure PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH, and Make America, and the World, SAFE AGAIN!," he added.
In a book published by the America First Policy Institute, co-written by Kellogg, who chairs the Center for America's Security, a strategy is outlined to end the conflict in Eastern Europe. It proposes that Washington push for a ceasefire and settlement by pledging to arm Ukraine to deter potential Russian attacks during or after the agreement is reached, contingent on Kiev agreeing to peace talks with Russia.
