United States President Donald Trump announced that Jay Clayton will serve as the interim United States attorney for the Southern District of New York.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump praised Clayton, who he said served with "great distinction as the Chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission" during his first term, adding that he earned the "respect of everyone."
Additionally, Trump criticized Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who he says "is blocking all New York US attorney nominees," despite Clayton being "previously confirmed by the Senate on a bipartisan basis and having completed all the requests of the Senate Judiciary Committee."
