Trump reiterates tariffs threat for BRICS countries

EPA-EFE/WILL OLIVER

United States President Donald Trump mirrored on Thursday the threat he issued to BRICS countries back in November, once again calling on the bloc to abandon any plans of creating a new currency, or "face 100% Tariffs."

In his Truth Social post, which was identical to the one in November, Trump once again said that the US "will require a commitment" from BRICS nations that they will "neither create a new BRICS Currency, nor back any other Currency to replace the mighty U.S. Dollar or, they will face 100% Tariffs, and should expect to say goodbye to selling into the wonderful U.S. Economy."

"There is no chance that BRICS will replace the U.S. Dollar in International Trade, or anywhere else, and any Country that tries should say hello to Tariffs, and goodbye to America," he reiterated.
