United States President-elect Donald Trump said the people of Greenland "will benefit tremendously if, and when, it becomes part" of the US. Trump proposed to buy the island from Denmark during his first term and has renewed the idea since his reelection in November. His son, Donald Trump Jr. visited Greenland on Monday.
While the Danish government has strongly rejected Trump's proposal, Greenland's Prime Minister Mute Egede advocated for the island's independence. In a post on Truth Social, Trump vowed to "protect it, and cherish it, from a very vicious outside World."
