OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that the company named Instacart CEO Fidji Simo (pictured) as its CEO of Applications, adding she will be reporting directly to him.

"Applications brings together a group of existing business and operational teams responsible for how our research reaches and benefits the world, and Fidji is uniquely qualified to lead this group. Serving as an OpenAI board member over the past year, Fidji has already contributed a great deal to our company," Altman noted and stressed he will remain CEO of the company and oversee Research, Compute, and Applications to make sure the company stays "aligned and integrated across all areas."

Before joining Instacart in 2021, Simo held several roles at Facebook, including head of the Facebook app from 2019 to 2021. She noted she will remain CEO of Instacart "for the next few months" and continue to serve as chair of the board after that.
