United States President Donald Trump, speaking at a state dinner hosted by Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Wednesday, said he wants to see Iran "thrive" and be "successful," as Doha works closely with Washington on a potential agreement with Tehran.
"It's a terrible situation and we want to do the right thing," Trump told guests at the Lusail Palace, adding that any deal should help "save millions of lives." He thanked Qatari officials for their support in ongoing negotiations, promising that the US would "do things for you that you'll be very happy about."
"If we can avoid the harsh road with Iran, that's great ... The non-friendly is a violent course and I don't want that," Trump added.
