United States President Donald Trump announced the nomination of Lieutenant General John Caine for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. If confirmed, he will replace General Charles Brown Jr. as the highest-ranking military officer in the country's armed forces.
Trump described Caine as an "accomplished pilot [and] national security expert" stating that he had played a key role in defeating the Islamic State (IS) during his first term. "Despite being highly qualified and respected to serve on the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the previous administration, General Caine was passed over for promotion by Sleepy Joe Biden," Trump wrote on TruthSocial.
Trump thanked Brown for his service, praising him as an "outstanding leader." Brown became the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in October 2023 after being nominated by former President Joe Biden. He had served less than half of his four-year term before Trump dismissed him.
