United States President-elect Donald Trump announced the nomination of Ronald Johnson (pictured) as the next US ambassador to Mexico.

Trump praised Johnson's former work as ambassador to El Salvador during Trump's first term, saying he played a key role in reducing violent crime and illegal migration. Trump emphasized that he believes Johnson's experience will strengthen Washington's security and advance his administration's policies, which he said aim to put "America first."

Before his ambassadorship, Johnson served over 20 years with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and had a military career as a Green Beret.
