United States President Donald Trump said he will sign an executive order directing the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security to prepare the Guantanamo Bay facility in Cuba to detain the "worst" illegal immigrants.

"Most people don't even know about it," Trump told reporters shortly after signing the Laken Riley Act into law. "We have 30,000 beds in Guantanamo to detain the worst criminal illegal aliens threatening the American people," he continued.

"We're gonna send them to Guantanamo," the president repeated while adding that it would help "eradicate the scourge of migrant crime in our communities once and for all."
