Former United States President Donald Trump claimed that he will end the war in Ukraine "before I even arrive at the Oval Office" after being re-elected president in 2024. "Shortly after I win the presidency, I will have the disastrous war between Russia and Ukraine settled," he told his supporters at a rally in Texas. He repeated his opinion that the war "never would have happened" if he had been in the White House at the time.
Trump said that he had a good relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin and that he "never even mentioned" invading Ukraine during Trump's term in office. He speculated that initially Putin "wanted to get a piece" of Ukraine but that now "it looks like he will probably end up getting the whole thing." He vowed to "prevent World War III, which we’re heading into."
