Meta Platforms has proposed to start seeking consent on some personalized advertisements across its social media networks in Europe and plans to begin with this practice soon, The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday citing people with knowledge on the matter.
In a proposal to privacy regulators in Europe, which have put the tech giant under pressure over privacy concerns, Meta shared that it could update its systems to ask for consent for specified ads as soon as October, in an effort to put an end to the issue.
Previously, Meta granted its users with an opportunity to request to opt out of ads based on their activity in the company's various apps. However, this can only be done if the customer files an official request by filling out a lengthy form. In comparison to this, asking for consent would only require the users to simply choose "yes" or "no."
