United States President Donald Trump urged on Tuesday the Republican members of the Senate to vote for extending the national emergency on the imports of fentanyl "so we can finish the job, and end the scourge."
Writing on Truth Social, Trump accused the Democrats of "trying to halt our critical Tariffs on deadly Fentanyl coming in from Canada." "By their weakness, the Democrats have allowed Fentanyl to get out of hand. The Republicans and I have reversed that course, strongly and quickly. Major additional progress is being made. Don't let the Democrats have a Victory," he insisted.
Trump's comments came ahead of the vote on blocking Trump from invoking the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to introduce a 25% duty on imports from Canada, tabled by Senators Tim Kaine of Virginia and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota.
