United States President-elect Donald Trump said government funding should be "done and fully negotiated" before he takes office on January 20. Earlier, he dismissed a spending bill that would keep the government running until March 14, saying he is "totally against" it.
Trump said that, if Republican lawmakers tried to pass a short-term spending bill, it would "bring the mess of the Debt Limit into the Trump Administration, rather than allowing it to take place in the Biden Administration." He suggested any Republican "that would be so stupid as to do this" should be eliminated in the next primaries ahead of the midterm election.
