United States President Donald Trump stressed on Tuesday that he does not "blame" the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) for treating his country unfairly but his predecessor, Joe Biden.
Speaking to the press at the White House, Trump insisted he has made other members of the alliance pledge to increase their defense spending, particularly amid the still ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He noted the impact of the crisis on Europe, stressing that there is "an ocean between" the US and the fighting zone. Furthermore, the president reiterated his intention to introduce additional tariffs on the EU.
Additionally, when asked more about the conflict in Ukraine, Trump expressed his hope that both that country and Russia will continue to engage in efforts to end the crisis, like they agreed on a partial ceasefire in the Black Sea and to end attacking each other's energy infrastructure.
