United States President Donald Trump said on Saturday that the Group of Seven summit was "tremendously productive" in a speech that wrapped up his tour of the Middle East and Europe.

Addressing members of the military in Sigonella, Sicily, the president reiterated the commitment of G7 leaders to overcome the threat of terrorism and the extremist ideology behind it. He called for better cooperation among nations on counterterrorism and immigration matters in order to "protect citizens," adding that "extraordinary gains" have been made during his first foreign trip in advancing the prosperity and security of the US and its allies.

Trump told members of the military that they are "number one," stressing the importance of boosts to defense spending as well as his "complete and unshakable support" for the policy.

The president also talked about the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), this time explicitly stating that the US supports NATO "all the way," but that it wants to be treated fairly with regard to the payment scheme.
