United States President Donald Trump indicated on Thursday that he was unaware of the day's market performance. "Well I haven't seen it because I've been here," he answered when asked for a reaction during his cabinet meeting.
"We had very good inflation numbers today. Oil is down ... I don't see anything unusual today," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent elaborated.
Earlier, stocks fell, erasing most of the previous day's historic gains that followed Trump's announcement of a 90-day suspension on certain reciprocal duties. The Dow Jones plunged 2,000 points as market participants were concerned that despite the temporary relief on some tariffs, Trump's targeting of China with substantially higher rates would hamper economic growth.
