Trump: Ireland used tax policy to lure US companies

United States Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that Ireland relied on its forgiving tax system to lure away big pharmaceuticals and other companies away from his country.

"When the pharmaceutical companies started going to Ireland, I would have said that's okay -- but if you want to sell anything into the United States, I'm going to put a 200% tariff on you," Trump claimed. The statement was made after Trump welcomed Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin before the "Friends of Ireland" luncheon Wednesday afternoon at the Capitol.

Doubling down on current tariff moves against the European Union, Trump promised that the US "will be abused no longer," accusing the union of being unfair to US companies, stressing that Washington will charge other countries with the same tariffs they impose on the US.
