United States President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he is open to lowering tariffs only for countries that agree to open their markets for American goods, just like Japan agreed to.
"I WILL ONLY LOWER TARIFFS IF A COUNTRY AGREES TO OPEN ITS MARKET. IF NOT, MUCH HIGHER TARIFFS! Japan’s Markets are now OPEN (for first time ever!). USA BUSINESSES WILL BOOM!" Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
Earlier this week, the US and Japan reached a trade agreement, which includes Washington cutting the reciprocal tariff on Japanese goods from 25% to 15%. Trump's comments come ahead of the US delegation's upcoming trade talks with China.
