United States President-elect Donald Trump announced that billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy will lead a new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), in an effort to cut government spending and streamline bureaucracy.

Trump said the pair would "pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures and restructure Federal Agencies." The department will give "advice and guidance" from outside the government, and "will partner with the White House and Office of Management & Budget to drive large scale structural reform," Trump added.

He gave a deadline of July 4, 2026, for the department to conclude its work, stressing that he is "confident they will succeed."
