United States President Donald Trump said during his address from the Oval Office on Tuesday that National Guard units will remain deployed in California "until there's no danger."

"Los Angeles was under siege until we got there," the president told reporters, adding that, "the [local] police were unable to handle" the protests. He further explained he sent in the National Guard only after Democrat governors "didn't want to call them in."

Trump reiterated that the protests occurring in "certain areas" of Los Angeles could be described as an "insurrection."
