Former United States President Donald Trump said during a town hall event in Michigan that only "consequential" presidents face assassination attempts.

"And then you wonder why I get shot at," he stated after saying that he plans to implement a 200% tariff on Chinese vehicles produced in Mexico, making them "unsellable" in the US. "And they think they're going to make tens of thousands automobiles and sell them here, no tariffs, no nothing," he continued, stressing that "it's not going to happen."

He reflected further on the attempts on his life during the event, saying that being and running for president "is a dangerous business," that has to be kept safe.
