United States President Donald Trump argued on Friday that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin would not be concerned about NATO if Washington were to exit the alliance.
"President Putin will tell you that without the United States, he wouldn't be worried [about NATO]," the leader shared with the reporters in the Oval Office, referencing his recent talks with the Russian head of state. Trump also said that he had good talks with both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, expressing hope that the "confines of a deal" on ceasefire already exist.
Noting that NATO remains "solid" and "strong" Trump claimed credit for revitalizing the defense organization's finances, stating he "saved" it and secured "hundreds of billions of dollars" from member countries.
