Trump: Tariffs to pressure Canada on drug trafficking, border security

The White House stated in a post on X that United States President Donald Trump implemented the 25% tariff on Canadian goods as well as a 10% tariff on its energy resources "until Canada cooperates with the US against drug traffickers and on border security."

"There is growing production of fentanyl in Canada, and enough fentanyl was seized at the northern border last fiscal year to kill 9.8 million Americans," the White House claimed in a post on X.

Additionally, it stated that "illegal border crossing from Canada reached historic new heights every year for the last four fiscal years."
