United States President-elect Donald Trump called for the expansion of his country’s nuclear program on Thursday, but he added proliferation should only continue until the world understands the dangers of nuclear weapons.

The former business man who will enter the White House on January 20, tweeted: “The United States must greatly strengthen and expand its nuclear capability until such time as the world comes to its senses regarding nukes.”

Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin called for an expansion of Russia’s nuclear capabilities.

The United States has almost 7,000 nuclear warheads out of the world’s total of 15,375, according to the Ploughshares Fund. Russia’s nuclear arsenal is the largest with 7,300 warheads.
