United States President Donald Trump stated on Truth Social on Friday that he had a "very productive" call with To Lam, General Secretary of Vietnam's Communist Party.

According to Trump, Lam expressed his country's willingness to lower tariffs to zero, pending a trade agreement with Washington. Trump thanked him on behalf of the US and said he looked forward to meeting soon. Vietnam was among the nations most affected by Trump's April 2 measures, which imposed a 46% reciprocal tariff on the White House calculated 90% Vietnam charges on American goods.

In response, the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade promptly issued a diplomatic note urging the US to delay enforcement of the tariffs.
