United States President Donald Trump confirmed on Friday that he would impose "large-scale" retaliatory tariffs on Canada if that country responds with counter duties. At the same time, he hailed April 2 as "liberation day" for America.
Expanding on the topic of the incoming retaliatory tariffs, Trump reiterated that "many countries have taken advantage" of the US. "That has to stop," the president stressed.
"We're gonna end up with a very good relationship with Canada and a lot of the other countries ... some we probably won't ... it won't be so pleasant. Most countries are agreeing with me, many of them have actually apologized," Trump explained while blaming his predecessors for allowing the trade imbalance to worsen.
