Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Donmez (pictured) stated on Tuesday, during an interview with TRT Haber TV channel, that Ankara commenced its partial payments of Russian gas in rubles.
"As you know, an agreement has been reached, partial payment has already begun. We intend to intensify our work in this direction," Donmez noted. According to him, during the upcoming months, Russia and Turkey plan to increase the share of payments in local currencies, in the field of energy trade.
Earlier in October, the Turkish official confirmed that the two countries agreed to enter a joint venture in order to create a gas hub. Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan previously said Ankara will try to ensure the supply of Russian natural gas to the European market through TurkStream.
