Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Friday that a potential exclusion of Hungary from the Schengen Area will lead to Budapest's exit from the European Union.
"Exclusion from Schengen is the beginning of exclusion from the European Union. I would be careful about excluding countries from the European Union," Tusk told reporters after 67 members of the European Parliament urged European Commission Ursula von der Leyen to take stricter measures against Hungary as it decided to ease visa requirements for Russian and Belarusian citizens.
Furthermore, Tusk insisted that Hungary is not the only EU country that grants visas to Russians and Belarusians. "It seems that the rules of European law have been violated. But Hungary is not the only country that issues visas to Belarusians and Russians," he concluded.
