Two dead in helicopter crash into Mississippi River

Two people died after a helicopter crashed into a barge on the Mississippi River in Alton between Illinois and Missouri, authorities said on Thursday.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reported that a Hughes 369D helicopter struck electrical cables over the river and crashed into the barge, which caught fire.

No immediate injuries were reported on the barge. The river was shut down as the power line fell into the water.
