Two German-Russian nationals were detained in the town of Bayreuth in Bavaria over suspicion of working for Russian intelligence services and plotting acts of sabotage, German federal prosecutors revealed on Thursday.
The two individuals, who were identified as 39-year-old Dieter S. and 37-year-old Alexander J., are accused of exploring possible attack targets, including the United States military installations based in Germany, with the aim of subverting military assistance to Ukraine.
Germany has been the second-largest provider, just after the US, of military assistance to Ukraine since Russia launched its special military operation in February 2022.
