U.S. calls NATO to join Anti-Daesh coalition

United States Envoy for Anti-Daesh coalition Brett H. McGurk stated on Saturday that the U.S. believes North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) should actively participate in the fight against Daesh group, according to Spiegel magazine.

McGurk implied that NATO could provide military training for Iraqi troops that are training in Jordan at the moment. The U.S. envoy also highlighted NATO could support the fight against the Islamic State with military aircraft using AWACS systems for better efficiency, the article noted.

The U.S. is collaborating with 60 nations to aid the anti-Daesh fight. NATO currently does not participate in the U.S.-led coalition against ISIS, yet McGurk said that the matter might be raised at the NATO summit this July in Warsaw, Poland.
