The unemployment rate in the United Kingdom clocked in at 4.4% in three months to December 2024, "above estimates of a year ago, and up in the latest quarter," the Office for National Statistics revealed in its report on Tuesday. The figure was slightly lower compared to analyst expectations.
In the fourth trimester, the country's employment rate was estimated at 74.9%, also "above estimates of a year ago, and up in the latest quarter," while the economic inactivity rate stood at 21.5%, "below estimates of a year ago, and down in the latest quarter."
The estimated number of vacancies, in the November 2024 to January 2025 period, declined by 9,000 to 819,000 quarter on quarter. In the October to December trimester, employees' average total pay growth, including bonuses, came in at 6%, while regular pay growth excluding bonuses was at 5.9%.
