United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Thursday that they signed the so-called Northwood Declaration, vowing, as the only nuclear powers in Europe, to respond in case Europe faces an "extreme threat."

Starmer noted that the two countries agreed to coordinate nuclear deterrence and warned "adversaries" that any serious threat to the continent would "prompt a response" from London and Paris, claiming the two countries are a "force for good in a dangerous world."

Meanwhile, Macron stated the two countries would "not rule out the coordination of our respective nuclear deterrents," stressing that is a message "others must hear."
