United Kingdom House of Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle said on Monday MPs will meet on Tuesday following the Easter Recess in a completely new environment to comply with the social distancing measures due to the coronavirus outbreak.
"It will be a historic moment in our 700-year history," noted Hoyle, as members of Parliament will vote on new proposals for virtual sitting announced on April 16. Up to 120 MPs are to take part in proceedings virtually at any one time, Hoyle stated, while around 50 could remain in the chamber under strict social distancing rules.
"In times of crisis we must all find new ways of working, just as we have done throughout history. Our new virtual Parliament means that MPs are playing the fullest part in the national effort to stay home, protect the NHS and save lives," the speaker said.
