Chinese markets down as inflation rises

Stock exchanges in the Asia Pacific traded mostly lower on Monday, with Chinese stocks leading the losses after the latest data showed that inflation in China climbed to 0.3% in April year-over-year.

In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite dropped 0.9%, and the Shenzhen Composite fell 0.69% at 7:15 am CET. Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up 0.42% at the same time, while South Korea's Kospi slipped 0.41%. Japan's Nikkei 225 declined 0.32% and Australian S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.18%.

The dollar stood flat against the Japanese yen, selling at ¥155.8290 at 7:18 am CET.
