The United Kingdom government announced plans on Thursday to heavily restrict new coal mining licenses after becoming the first major economy to stop burning coal for power.
After shutting its last coal-fired power plant in October, the UK has taken a further step on the road to clean energy as its government confirmed it will introduce legislation restricting future coal mining licenses as it sees phasing out coal as an integral step in battling climate change.
This comes after the UK Prime Minister Kier Starmer pledged on Tuesday that his country will cut 81% of all greenhouse gas emissions by 2025.
